As it turns out, Lord Nicholas Devereaux has yet to RSVP for Princess Diaries 3.

While visiting TODAY on Tuesday, Chris Pine was asked about his potential involvement in the highly-anticipated royal threequel, which costar Anne Hathaway revealed was officially greenlit last week.

His response? “I don’t know anything!”

Cohosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager both appeared gobsmacked by Pine’s revelation. “You don’t know anything?” Hager pressed. “You have a major role.” Kotb added, “You are Princess Diaries.”

After all, Pine made his film debut in the series' 2004 sequel The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement as Nicholas, a descendant of the Genovian Royal Family set to assume the throne unless Princess Mia Thermopolis (Hathaway) gets married. As his scheming uncle attempts to thwart Mia’s marriage for their family's gain, actual sparks begin to fly between the pair of young royals.

When Hager and Kotb unanimously agreed that Disney “can’t do Princess Diaries 3 without you,” Pine replied, “Call Disney! Call Bob Iger!”

The actor remained noncommittal even when asked if he’d be interested in reprising his role. “The answer is I’ve gotta see,” Pine said. “I don’t know anything about it. I think it’s fantastic.”

Pine has expressed his interest in returning to the wonderful fictional principality of Genovia in the past — and even revealed his own very unique take on where he’d like to see the series go next.

“If it were me, it would take place… they’d have a time machine and they’d go back to the ‘50s and it’d be like, 1955 in Rome,” he told Entertainment Weekly in May. “You know what it’d be? It’d be like a Luca Guadagnino film, [if he] directs Princess Diaries 3. Now that is f---ing fire.”

Adele Lim (Joy Ride) is set to direct the actual sequel, with Hathaway expected to reprise her role as the reigning Queen of Genovia. The rest of the cast's involvement in the project — including Pine, Heather Matarazzo, and Julie Andrews — is currently unclear.
