Spooky drag queen TV hosts The Boulet Brothers score first Emmy nomination for their own horror makeup
Published on December 13, 2025 EDT "We are so proud of this honor, as well as proud of the artistry presented on the show," the "Dragula" stars tell EW after the nominations.

The Emmys are, at long last, finally under the spell of the spooky, ooky, kooky, and creepy Boulet Brothers.

Horror-centric drag artists and The Boulet Brothers' Dragula creator-hosts achieved a not-so-scary milestone Wednesday morning, as the TV Academy bestowed queens Dracmorda and Swanthula Boulet with their first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Makeup for a Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Program — all for doing their own makeup on the show.

The Boulet Brothers are credited on the nomination as the head of the makeup department on the Shudder streaming project, which pits drag entertainers from around the world against each other in an intense (often disgusting, violent, and all-around terrifying) competition for a cash prize and the title of World's Next Drag Supermonster.

"We are so honored and thrilled to be nominated for two Emmy awards this year! We've been doing our makeup for years and we are so proud of this honor, as well as proud of the artistry presented on the show, and grateful to our crew, creatives, and network for making it such a special series," the Boulet Brothers tell Entertainment Weekly in a statement, referencing the show's second 2024 Emmy nomination for Marco Gabellini's hairstyling. "There is so much more to come!"

The show will compete in the makeup category against fellow drag-focused HBO series We're Here, for which prior Emmy-winning RuPaul's Drag Race alum Laila McQueen is also nominated.

After its modest beginnings with a low-budget start back on the Hey Qween Network on season 1 in 2016, The Boulet Brothers' Dragula has blossomed into a global series on the AMC-owned streaming service Shudder.

Its most recent season featured a stunning array of grotesque, creature- and prosthetic-filled creations from its contestants, who all enter the competition to fulfill the show's core tenets of drag, filth, horror, and glamour.

"This is a journey where I’m trying to heal my inner child. I feel that this gives me the opportunity to show the world that you can be so broken, you can come from such a dark place and still accomplish beautiful things," season 5 winner Niohuru X exclusively told EW in her first coronation interview. "This is a message to myself that I’m worthy of love. I can be celebrated by my darkness, my creepiness, my transness, all the things I used to hate about myself. I turned those bad memories and experiences into something beautiful."

The 2024 Emmys air Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC.
