DoubtAmy Ryan to replace Tyne Daly in
Published on April 14, 2026 EDT Daly was unexpectedly hospitalized Friday, leading her to withdraw from the show.

The show must go on, and this time it will because of Amy Ryan.

On Tuesday. Roundabout Theatre Company announced that Ryan will take over for the previously announced Tyne Daly in the highly anticipated Broadway revival of Doubt as Sister Aloysius.

Doubt was set to star Daly opposite Liev Schreiber as Father Flynn, a priest who is suspected of sexual misconduct with a Black student and interrogated by the head of the school, Sister Aloysius.

Producers disclosed that Daly was unexpectedly hospitalized on Friday, leading her to withdraw from the production while she receives medical care. They also noted that she is expected to make a full recovery.

Doubt is already in previews, and it was scheduled to open Feb. 29. Opening night has now been pushed to March 11 at the Todd Haimes Theatre. Ryan officially joins the cast beginning Feb. 13 and Daly's understudy Isabel Keating will play Sister Aloysius through Feb. 11.

"With respect and admiration for Tyne, we wish her the best and a quick recovery," said director Scott Ellis in a statement. "We are grateful that Amy Ryan said yes – in a quick minute – to join our company and take on the role of ‘Sister Aloysius.’  We deeply appreciate Isabel Keating, who remarkably stepped in with a day of rehearsal and allowed us to get the production up on its feet during this first week of performances."

Doubt: A Parable originally opened on Broadway in 2005, winning playwright John Patrick Shanley the Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for drama. This production marks the first Broadway revival of the play, which was also adapted into a 2008 film starring Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

The revival cast includes Quincy Tyler Bernstine as Mrs. Muller and Zoe Kazan as Sister James.
