OutlanderClaire wants to risk it all for love in first-look teaser for
Published on December 01, 2025 EDT Plus, three new faces join season 8's cast: Kieran Bew, Frances Tomelty, and Carla Woodcock.

After fighting in the Second Battle of Saratoga, Jamie (Sam Heughan), Claire (Caitriona Balfe), and Ian (John Bell) returned to their home in Scotland to bring the body of Simon Fraser (Angus Macfadyen) to his final resting place. But they're about to discover that "home" isn't the same as what they remember when Outlander season 7 returns with all-new episodes — and now we finally know exactly when the current Droughtlander will end.

As part of "World Outlander Day" on Saturday, Starz announced that the second half of season 7 will premiere Friday, Nov. 22, as well as released a teaser trailer showing how Claire is once again ready to risk it all for love. (What else would you expect of our favorite Sassenach at this point?)

Plus, three new names have joined the upcoming 10-episode eighth and final season that's currently in production: Kieran Bew (House of the Dragon) will play Captain Charles Cunningham, a retired British soldier; Frances Tomelty (Catastrophe) will play his mother Elspeth Cunningham; and Carla Woodcock (Such Brave Girls, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder) will play Amaranthus Grey, a new member of the Grey family.

The remaining eight episodes of season 7 will pick up as Jamie and Claire come to terms with their new reality, and executive producer Maril Davis warns it won't be the homecoming they're expecting, and their marriage will be tested like never before.

"You know that saying, 'You can never go home again?' That's definitely true," Davis previously told Entertainment Weekly. "Home is never the home you knew. It's never going to be the same. That's true when we come back — there's troubling things on the horizon and some painful stuff. It's bittersweet. It's a homecoming, but things happen that are more of a sad note."

Meanwhile, in the 1980s, Roger (Richard Rankin) and Buck (Diarmaid Murtagh) decide to travel through the stones in search of Jem (Blake Johnston-Miller) who has been kidnapped by Rob Cameron (Chris Fulton), while Bree (Sophie Skelton) is left to worry about her family being torn across time.

"It's so hard," Davis said about Bree's upcoming arc. "Knowing that time travel's so tough anyway, and then to think your son is out there somewhere with a crazy person. It's the not knowing that's the hardest part. Not going on this journey with Roger and Buck and not knowing what's happening or where they are or if they found him and where Jem is. As a mother that has got to be really heartbreaking."

At least viewers will get some laughs about the pairing of Roger and Buck as they go on an adventure together. "It's a little buddy dramedy, in the past," Davis teased. "They're so much fun together."

As for what else fans can expect from the second half of the season, Davis promised that it's "even better in terms of notching up the tension" than what was in the first half.

"Everyone's worst fears are realized in the back half," she added. "The emotion and the drama that comes with that is breathtaking in a way that our characters are pushed to the limits. There's so much heartbreak. Buckle in, because the back half is just insane."
