CommunityDan Harmon says Donald Glover isn't to blame for

Dan Harmon is emphasizing that Donald Glover is not behind the stalled timeline for the upcoming Community movie.

The creator of the NBC sitcom — centered on a ragtag group of friends at the fictional Greendale Community College — called on fans to "stop haranguing" Glover, who has been blamed for holding up production of the film due to his busy schedule.

"I saw where Donald Glover said he’s hearing from fans that they think he’s the reason the movie’s not happening sooner," Harmon told Variety in a recent interview. "I immediately wanted to get on my Instagram and say, ‘Stop yelling at Donald! Do you want to scare this guy off?’ He wants to do the movie; stop haranguing him!"

Harmon stressed that the actor and rapper is "not the reason" for the timeline, adding that "no single human being could be the reason for delays." He explained, "The frustrating thing is that our engine moves so slowly and so easily gets derailed and stuck. The timescale is so different for us than for the fans."

"The fans have 900 times more anxiety per minute to feel than this machine that ultimately gives them their movie," he added. Harmon also shared a promising update: He's doing a final pass on the script. "The engine is still moving," he said.

Peacock announced in 2022 that a Community movie was in the works with Harmon attached, making good on the sitcom creator's promise of six seasons and a movie. Along with Glover, Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, Ken Jeong, and Yvette Nicole Brown are expected to reprise their roles. (Notably absent is Chevy Chase, who had a rocky relationship with Harmon and the cast prior to his season 4 departure.)

Glover, who departed the sitcom in season 5 to pursue his musical career as Childish Gambino, shut down rumors earlier this year that his busy schedule was responsible for holding up production. “It’s happening but I don’t know when. I swear, it’s happening," Glover told Deadline. “Everybody is hating on me on the internet and it’s not me! They’re like, ‘We know that you’re the reason.’ Maybe I was last year, but not this time.”
