MaXXXineElizabeth Debicki is not a horror fan despite starring in

Please don't ask Elizabeth Debicki to watch a horror film.

Despite her role in Ti West's upcoming slasher MaXXXine, Debicki revealed that she is not a fan of the horror genre. According to The Crown alum, her fondness for the genre died during a sleepover as a teenager.

"Like every teenager, I went to sleepovers and birthday parties and got scared with people," Debicki told PEOPLE. "I think my horror-watching days ended one day when I was watching — I can't remember [which movie] — with my best friend. We were 16 and her dad, classic, went around the house and knocked on the window and scared the shit out of us."

"I was like, I never need to be that scared again," she added. "I'm a low-risk individual in life. I don't like rollercoasters, I don't like horror films. My job injects enough adrenaline into me on a daily basis, and so I generally avoid them."

Horror films can bring about "remarkable acting performances," yes, but "I don't seek them out," Debicki said. "And if someone's like, 'Let's watch this,' I'm like, 'Absolutely not.'" She added that she's still very much reeling from Ari Aster's fellow A24 horror offering Hereditary. "I watched Hereditary and I was like, 'Well, I'll never recover from that.'"

A sequel to X, MaXXXine follows Mia Goth's lone survivor of the massacre that unfolded in X as she travels to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. Set in 1985 L.A., the film sees the adult film star/aspiring starlet become the target of a mysterious night stalker. Debicki plays Elizabeth Bender, a filmmaker who casts Goth's Maxine Minx in the sequel to her indie horror film.

The star-studded cast also includes Kevin Bacon, Michelle Monaghan, Giancarlo Esposito, Lily Collins, and Halsey.

"It's going to zig instead of zag in a lot of places that people aren't expecting," West teased of the film (out July 5) to Entertainment Weekly. "It's a very decadent world that she lives in, and it's a very aggressive world that she lives in, but the threat shows up in an unexpected way."

West also confirmed that MaXXXine "will probably be the end of the Maxine era," but noted chances of the film expanding beyond a trilogy. "I do have one idea that plays into these movies that could maybe happen," West said. "I don't know if it'll be next. It might be. We'll see."
