Mamma Mia stars Amanda Seyfried and Meryl Streep have a mother-daughter reunion at the 2024 Golden Globes
Published on April 20, 2026 EDT Streep surprised Seyfried on the red carpet.

Mamma Mia stars Amanda Seyfried and Meryl Streep had a Sheridan family reunion at the 2024 Golden Globes.

The two actresses — who played daughter Sophie and mother Donna in the 2008 movie-musical — reunited on the red carpet. As Seyfried posed for pictures, Streep surprised her by swooping in to kiss her on the cheek.

Streep was a 2024 Golden Globe nominee for her supporting role in Only Murders in the Building, while Seyfried was on hand as a presenter.

Seyfried starred in both the original 2008 Mamma Mia and the 2018 sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, both inspired by the music of ABBA. (Streep’s character Donna died between the two films, but she makes a brief cameo in the sequel.) Fans have been clamoring for a third film for years, and both actresses have repeatedly said that they’d be open to returning.

"I'm up for anything," Streep told Vogue in 2023. "I'll have to schedule a knee scoping before we film, but if there's an idea that excites me, I'm totally there."

In fact, Streep added that she already has a few ideas about how Donna could make a posthumous return.

"I told [producer Judy Craymer] if she could figure out a way to reincarnate Donna, I'm into that," Streep said. "Or it could be like in one of those soap operas where Donna comes back and reveals it was really her twin sister that died."
