Published on April 20, 2026 EDT See EW's top pop culture picks for the weekend of June 28, including 'My Lady Jane' and Paul Tremblay's novel 'Horror Movie.'

I feel like my Oura ring spent half this week asking if I was stressed — but thankfully for all reasons I’d happily have my heart racing: First was episode 5 of The Acolyte. The reveal of the Disney+ Star Wars series’ big bad may not have been a surprise to anyone, but the bloodbath (and biceps) were truly impressive and shocking. (Enter shameless plug for Dalton Ross’ cover story on the episode.) Second was an advance screening of A Quiet Place: Day One. Do yourself a favor and see this horror thriller in theaters this weekend… just open those Red Vines quietly. —Patrick Gomez, Editor-in-Chief

The Bear is open for business! Following season 2's renovations to the family restaurant and the staff members beefing up on their culinary skills, Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), and company have whipped up another incredible concoction of this 10-time Emmy-winning series. At this week's Hollywood premiere for season 3 (all 10 episodes are now on Hulu), series creator Christopher Storer explained that the third installment is about legacy — and this series has all the ingredients to create a long-lasting one. A Bear binge should be on your TV-viewing menu. —Gerrad Hall, Editorial Director

We first told you about June Squibb’s delightful and entertaining Thelma when it debuted at Sundance in January. Now, she's winning over audiences in theaters everywhere with the action-packed (she’s doing her own stunts at 94 years young, y'all!) story of a woman on a mission to find the people who scammed her. —Gerrad Hall, Editorial Director

This Prime Video series takes the tragic tale of Lady Jane Grey, executed after nine days as Queen of England, and says f— that, reimagining Jane as a kickass heroine cast against a fantastical backdrop where half the population can transform into animals. It’s perfect, frothy, summer fun, and I ate up every sexy, hilarious, swashbuckling moment. —Maureen Lee Lenker, Senior Writer

After blessing us with one of last year's best albums, Fountain Baby, Amaarae is back! This new EP delivers the mix of high energy and soulfulness the Ghanaian-American singer-songwriter is known for, including an enchanting track with Naomi Sharon and a remix of "Disguise" featuring 6lack. —Alamin Yohannes, Social Media Director

An unfinished, ill-fated exploitation film eventually develops a cult following, but will the potential reboot be "cursed" as well? It’s an enticing premise deftly spun by stellar horror author Paul Tremblay. Sardonic and genuinely startling, Horror Movie is a page-turner for any genre buff who's ever wasted away in a YouTube video essay rabbit hole. —Allaire Nuss, Associate Editor
