The future of The Challenge is its past.

MTV's long-running reality competition series is embracing nostalgia with The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras. The monumental 40th season sees the series reaching back into its past for a cast of 40 fan-favorite challengers to represent four different eras of the show’s 26-year history.

The path to glory will be more difficult than ever for the veteran challengers as they compete for their share of the one million dollar prize. The stacked roster includes prior champions such as seven-time winner Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio, five-time winner CT Tamburello, four-time winners Darrell Taylor and Jordan Wiseley, and three-time winner Derrick Kosinski.

Despite the familiar faces, The Challenge will mix things up for this milestone season, to test the skills of the 40 competitors who might think they’ve already mastered the game.

Ahead of the season 40 debut, fans will get a chance to meet the cast and see a sneak peek of the upcoming season during MTV’s August 7 launch special, The Challenge 40: Battle for of the Eras: Countdown Begins.

The Challenge returns Wednesday, August 14 at 8PM ET/PT on MTV. New episodes will be accompanied by MTV's Official Challenge Podcast, hosted by veteran competitors.
