Dexter: Original Sin See Christian Slater and more of the cast from bloodthirsty prequel

Dexter is back! Almost.

Paramount+ and Showtime have released the first images from prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, which stars Patrick Gibson as the titular serial killer with a conscience. Shadow and Bone star Gibson replaces Michael C. Hall, who played the older version of the character on Dexter for eight seasons from 2006 to 2013 and then returned to the role in 2021 sequel series Dexter: New Blood.

Gibson portrays Dexter Morgan in a story that takes place 15 years before the original show. Viewers will see him evolve from a student to an avenging killer in the 10-episode series.

Dexter's adoptive father, Harry (James Remar in the original series), will be portrayed here by Christian Slater. A Miami police officer, Harry helps his diabolically driven son devise a code for selecting victims worthy of death and who won't be missed.

The photos show Slater, who appeared in TV's Fleishman Is in Trouble and Dr. Death in the last few years, as Harry holding a gun and wearing a law enforcement jacket.

One challenge for young Dexter, as he attempts to evade attention for his crimes, is that he's interning in the forensics department of the Miami Metro Police Department.

The younger version of Dexter's adoptive sister, Debra (played by Jennifer Carpenter in the original and Dexter: New Blood), will be played here by Molly Brown, whose previous credits include Billions and movie Senior Year.

The new series is highly anticipated, as its predecessors were hits for Showtime, with the second series earning the network its highest ratings ever. Dexter also scored four Emmys, including one for guest actor John Lithgow, over its run.

Cast members not shown in the new photos include TV favorites Patrick Dempsey, who plays young Dexter's boss, and Sarah Michelle Gellar, who guest stars in the new series. James Martinez (as Angel Batista), Christina Milian (as Maria LaGuerta), Alex Shimizu (as Vince Masuka), and Reno Wilson (in a new role) also appear in the series.

In June, a source told EW that the show intentionally cast celebrities from iconic TV shows and movies from the '90s, because that's when the series is set.
