Yellowstone final season begins production, will return in November

Montana, here we come.

Yellowstone has officially started production on its final season. The beloved drama, which has been off the air for more than a year, is slated to return in November, as was previously announced. Also previously announced, the series is set to wrap up its run with the new episodes before launching a spinoff series, titled 2024.

But with star Kevin Costner's recent comments that he hasn't heard anything about finishing up season 5, it's unclear whether John Dutton will be returning for the final episodes.

Costner recently told Entertainment Weekly that he hasn't spoken to series creator Taylor Sheridan about returning, though he is open to the idea. "He's doing special work in a lot of different ways," Costner said of Sheridan. "He's very prolific about the things he does, and if he sees me in something that he wants to do, I'll look at it just the way I did Yellowstone and maybe we will end up doing something together. He likes a lot of the things that I like, and the idea of us working together is not out of the question for me. The subjects he chooses are very interesting to me. I like a lot of that stuff. Yellowstone stands as something that could continue. But that is a Taylor question. But other things that he's doing I think are really, really good. He likes the same subjects that I do."

Although it's unclear exactly what future Yellowstone episodes will hold, fans will remember that when we last left off, things between Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Jamie (Wes Bentley) were coming to a head. Translation: The siblings declared war on each other.

As Bentley told EW at the time, Jamie might have to kill his sister. "I think he has to," Bentley said. "There's an element of: This has to happen now because the play that's been made only allows for that. He knows this. They're gonna kill him now, like he thought they would if he played the impeachment game. He's a chess player. He's three steps ahead. He's thought it through a hundred times. When he says, 'It's over, Beth,' and she says, 'No, it's not,' that's his cue. 'Oh, you're gonna try and kill me now.' So my move has to be asking for help killing her. I don't know if he could do it with his own hands. He did kill his own [birth] father, but Beth is closer to him than his father. You know, they have a close relationship. Part of the pain and hate between them comes from the loss of that wonderful relationship they had before."

We'll find out exactly what will come of that sibling war in November.
