In the House of Spoils trailer, it's less "yes, chef" and more "are you OK, chef?"

West Side Story Oscar winner and memorable Tonys host Ariana DeBose stars in the latest kitchen drama, which partly gives off The Bear vibes in the high-stakes, fast-paced dining world, but with a horror twist.

Also starring Euphoria's Barbie Ferreira and Succession's Arian Moayed, House of Spoils sees an ambitious chef (DeBose) leave her current job to become head chef at her own restaurant at a rural estate upstate. Ferreira plays one of the cooks in her kitchen, while Moayed plays her business partner. He tells their hired staff, "We're pulling off a fine-dining restaurant in the boonies. It is make or break."

The problem, it seems, is the estate itself. There seems to be a haunting presence messing with the new chef's mind...or is she just seeing things?

Ferreira's character remarks in the trailer how she's never seen local greens like the one picked from the garden, while another warns that the locals each have a "witch lady story" about the estate's former owner. "I wouldn't eat anything from her garden," he says.

Well, too late! DeBose's chef is cooking with greens from said garden. She's also seeing (or perhaps hallucinating) vermin run amok in her kitchen, and she's making very public, disorderly scenes. Don't think Carmy would be able to survive this one.

Glodi Balazs/Prime

Two years ago saw great success with The Menu, starring Anya Taylor-Joy in a dining experience from hell with Nicholas Hoult, Ralph Fiennes, and Hong Chau. It was billed as more of a horror-comedy set in a prestige restaurant, but we will never think of "tortillas deliciosas" or s'mores the same way again. House of Spoils also seems to lean into that food-horror vibe.

Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy wrote and directed House of Spoils, which also stars Amara Karan, Mikkel Bratt Silset, and Marton Csokas. Amazon MGM Studios with Blumhouse Television will first premiere the movie at Fantastic Fest this Sep. 21 before it drops on Prime Video Oct. 3.
