Ali Wong shouts out 83-year-old mom in 'pearls and Tevas' after SAG Awards win: 'She doesn't give a f---'

Ali Wong has joked a lot about her mother in her stand-up comedy over the years, but made clear that it's all love at the SAG Awards on Saturday. Her mother was actually in attendance at the show, where Wong won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series — her latest trophy for her acclaimed performance on Beef.

"I want to thank my 83-year-old mother, who's here tonight in her pearls and her Tevas because she doesn't give a f---," Wong said in her acceptance speech.

The SAG Awards are famous for their "I Am an Actor" speeches, where different actors share some of their personal histories with the profession. Many of the winners then use their speeches to thank their family for supporting and believing them. But Wong had an even more difficult career path to stardom than most, since she started as a stand-up comic before breaking through as an actress.

"I know it was really hard when I told you I wanted to do stand-up comedy," Wong said to her mom on stage. "I hope you feel like it's all worked out."

That win was a full-circle moment for Wong in many ways. After all, this year's SAG Awards are streamed live on Netflix, the same streaming service that hosts not just Beef but also Wong's three stand-up specials: Baby Cobra, Hard Knock Wife, and Don Wong. All those specials have funny and touching bits about Wong's relationship with her mom.
