What’s her favorite season? Why, awards of course.

Catherine O'Hara reunited with her Schitt's Creek family at the 2024 Emmys in Los Angeles on Sunday night. It all began with a surprise appearance by Annie Murphy, who joined awards show co-hosts Dan and Eugene Levy to present the final award of the night for Outstanding Comedy Series — only there was a bit of miscommunication.

"Oh my gosh. It's my TV sister, Annie Murphy," Dan said. "What's up, Annie?"

"Well, they said the shining star of Schitt's Creek was gonna present the final award of the night, so," Murphy said.

Interjected Eugene, "Theres been a little confusion here."

"So Annie," added Dan, "We're actually here to present that person, which is—"

"Isn't me," Murphy noted, before introducing "our favorite TV" mom, O'Hara, in unison with Dan.

O'Hara took the stage to present the win for Hacks, but not before questioning why we had to choose just one winner. "All the nominees have done such wonderful, hilarious work," she said, stalling, and ripping up the card with the winner (only to later whip out an extra copy) to a stunned audience. "Must we? Yes, apparently we must."

Co-created by Dan and Eugene, Schitt's Creek followed the wealthy Rose family, headed by patriarch Johnny (Eugene), a video store magnate, and matriarch Moira (O’Hara), a soap opera star, who lose their vast fortune overnight. Alongside spoiled kids David (Dan) and Alexis (Murphy), they rebuild their lives in the small town of Schitt’s Creek, where a rundown motel is their only remaining asset.

The Emmy-winning sitcom ran for six seasons between 2015 and 2020, premiering on Canadian network CBC and later becoming a runaway hit on Netflix. The cast and crew capped off a triumphant final season at the 2020 Emmys, where the series won a sweeping nine trophies, including statuettes for the four main stars. Emily Hampshire, Sarah Levy, Chris Elliott, Jennifer Robertson, Noah Reid, and Dustin Milligan rounded out the cast of eccentric locals and love interests.

Speaking to Radio Times earlier this year, Dan left the door open for a revival but cautioned at the “delicate balance” it required. “I cannot imagine a higher note to end on. We care about giving the cast and the fans a reason to come back that doesn't feel less than what they left,” he said. “It's a delicate balance, because when you turn people off, they'll never come back.”

Until the right idea comes along, “I can't see it happening,” added the younger Levy. “But I pray that one day it does and I think, 'This is it!'”
