The Drew Barrymore Show pitches celeb

Hey, ABC! The cast of The Drew Barrymore Show has some ideas for how to make the upcoming Golden Bachelorette spinoff extra rosy.

On Friday, Drew Barrymore and her cohost, Ross Mathews, were joined by Entertainment Tonight correspondent Rachel Smith to discuss a series of recent pop culture headlines, including the announcement that the first-ever Golden Bachelorette will set out on her own journey to find love this fall.

“Have they picked anyone yet?” Barrymore asked the table, to which Smith responded, “No, they haven’t picked the lucky lady yet, but, Drew and Ross, if you could submit someone, who would that [be]?”

Mathews instantly had a few famous faces in mind. “I have thoughts,” he said. “What if they did, like, a celebrity version?”

As for whom he'd like to see handing out the roses? "Well, Meryl Streep is single!” Mathews exclaimed. "Diane Keaton, Sharon Stone… there are so many hot women of that age that would be so... I would love that.”

“Oh, I’m so into that,” Smith responded, adding, “Meryl, is your calendar available?”

Barrymore, whose mouth had dropped open in surprise at the idea, happily turned toward her desk and declared, “Start that rumor right here is all I can say!”

Mathews wanting Streep to become the Golden Bachelorette comes after the actress announced last year that she and her husband, Don Gummer, have been quietly separated for over six years. As for Stone? Well, she was married twice throughout her life: first to Michael Greenburg, from 1984 until 1990, and then to Phil Bronstein, from 1998 until 2004.

Keaton, however, may be a bit harder to convince. She told AARP last year that her ever dating again is "highly unlikely," saying, "I don’t remember anyone calling me, going, ‘This is So-and-So. I’d like to take you out.' They don’t happen. Of course not.”

While the actual star of the Golden Bachelorette has yet to be announced, a press release for the series stated that it will "highlight one radiant woman’s second chance at love in her golden years." Its announcement comes after The Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner and his new partner, Theresa Nist, tied the knot during their televised Golden Wedding last month.
