Mean Girls Get in, loser! We're watching the
Published on January 15, 2026 EDT The new movie, which is a hybrid of the original film and the Broadway musical, hits theaters Jan. 12.

Grab some Toaster Strudels because Paramount released the first trailer for the Mean Girls movie musical.

A new era of Plastics terrorizes new girl Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) and the rest of North Shore High School in the new movie, which is a mix of elements from the original 2004 instant-hit comedy and the 2018 Broadway musical. Those who attended showings of the Taylor Swift concert film were treated to not a regular teaser but a cool teaser for the film that played in theaters only. Now, a brand-new one is online (shown above), which is totally fetch.

The footage introduces Reneé Rapp's Regina George, a role the Sex Lives of College Girls star portrayed in the original Broadway musical from 2019-2020. She's joined by Bebe Wood and Avantika Vandanapu as fellow Plastics Gretchen "full of secrets" Weiners and Karen "has ESPN or something" Shetty, as well as Auli'i Cravalho's ostracized Janis 'Imi'ike, Jaquel Spivey's sardonic Damian Hubbard, and Christopher Briney as heartthrob Aaron Samuels.

Mean Girls follows teenager Cady (played by Lindsay Lohan in the original film) who moves from Africa to the suburbs of Illinois, where she gets caught up in her new high school's social hierarchy and unwittingly falls in with popular clique the Plastics (originated by Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried.)

Mean Girls creator Tina Fey and actor Tim Meadows are back as Ms. Norbury and Principal Duval, respectively, while the trailer also glimpses Jenna Fischer's Mrs. Heron, Cady's mother (played by Ana Gasteyer in the original film), Busy Philipps as Regina's "cool mom" Mrs. George, Ashley Park (who played Gretchen Weiners in the Broadway run) as a teacher, and Jon Hamm as everyone's sex ed fearmonger Coach Carr.

Fey, who wrote the script for the original 2004 film and book for the Broadway show, penned the script for the movie musical, which hits theaters Jan. 12. Lorne Michaels returned to produce the feature, this time directed by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr.

An adaptation of Rosalind Wiseman's 2002 book Queen Bees and Wannabes, the movie grossed $130 million worldwide and became a pop culture phenomenon, while the Broadway adaptation earned a staggering 12 nominations at the 2018 Tony Awards.
