See Taylor Swift, Celine Dion embrace backstage at Grammys amid fan backlash
Published on April 20, 2026 EDT Fan uproar erupted when Swift seemingly didn't acknowledge Dion on stage as she accepted the Album of the Year trophy.

There's no bad blood after Celine Dion fans accused Taylor Swift of snubbing the legendary performer on stage at the 2024 Grammys.

As Swift closed out Sunday night's ceremony with a record-setting fourth victory for Album of the Year, the 34-year-old seemingly didn't look at Dion — who made a surprise appearance to present the category amid her battle with stiff-person syndrome — while accepting the statuette in her moment of excitement.

Within minutes of the show ending, however, a photo of the pair embracing backstage began circulating online.

In the image (below), Swift smiles as she hugs Dion, who flashes a warm reaction as Swift's arm is draped across her shoulder.

The moment occurred after Swift was seen on camera enthusiastically applauding Dion — and mouthing the words to "The Power of Love" — as the 55-year-old "My Heart Will Go On" performer walked out to present the award.

Still, immediately after Swift took the Grammy from Dion, social media users erupted with anger, with many calling Swift's actions disrespectful.

"Not trying to be hater but being handed a Grammy by Celine Dion in her very triumphant first public appearance in a long time and barely making eye contact [is] insane," reads one viral tweet, while another referenced the fact that Swift dragged her Midnights album collaborator and fellow Album of the Year nominee Lana Del Rey to the stage with her despite Del Rey's visible resistance.

EW has reached out to representatives for Swift and Dion for comment.

In the competitive Album of the Year category, Midnights beat out Jon Batiste's World Music Radio, Boygenius' The Record, Miley Cyrus' Endless Summer Vacation, Janelle Monáe's The Age of Pleasure, Olivia Rodrigo's Guts, and SZA's SOS, and Del Rey's Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd.

The victory marked Swift's second of the evening, after Midnights won Best Pop Vocal Album earlier in the evening — the speech for which Swift used to announce the title of her upcoming album The Tortured Poets Department.
