Jenni Rivera's posthumous Walk of Fame star vandalized less than 2 weeks after installation
Published on April 20, 2026 EDT Rivera was once labeled the most important female artist in regional Mexican music

Jenni Rivera's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has barely had its day in the sun, and it has already been vandalized.

The star, which was awarded posthumously on June 27, was obscured and smeared with an unidentified black substance. The official Instagram account of the Walk of Fame posted images of the vandalized star, as well as a video of a civilian helping to wipe the star clean.

"This morning fans reported that the @JenniRivera star has been vandalized," their account wrote. "This is unacceptable! Top send Terrazzo star maker Vince on the way to repair. Thanks to the fans who tried to clean the star up and reported. Note, there are cameras everywhere!"

Rivera's daughter, Janney, known as singer Chiquis, also commented on the post, expressing her dismay at the damage. "I cannot with this," she wrote. "Smh. Thank you for my momma’s fans that took the time to help clean it up. Shame on the person/people who did this."

No further information on the culprit or cause of the vandalization is available. Ana Martinez, a representative for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, told Entertainment Weekly, "I received a text from Jenni’s family rep, and fans who tried to fix the star reported it to them. We have no idea who did it. A police report has been filed and we are asking if neighboring businesses may have gotten footage."

The ceremony, which took place not even two weeks ago, featured a tribute from fellow Mexican icon Gloria Trevi, and all five of Rivera's children — Jacqie, Johnny, Chiquis, Jenicka and Michael — were present.

Chiquis made emotional remarks, saying that it was "such an honor to be the daughter of such an amazing woman."

Rivera was a singer, songwriter, and producer known for her work in Latin music genres, including banda, mariachi and norteño. Multiple experts have named her the most important female figure and top-selling female artist in regional Mexican music. Billboard magazine named her the "top Latin artist of 2013."

Though she began recording in 1992, she didn't rise to prominence until 2005 with her album Parrandera, Rebelde y Atrevida. In 2008, she secured her first No. 1 record on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart with her 10th studio effort, Jenni.

In addition to her musical success, Rivera carved a space for herself in reality television. She appeared in and produced 2010's Jenni Rivera Presents: Chiquis & Raq-C, starred on I Love Jennifrom 2011 through 2013, and also featured in 2012's Chiquis 'n Control. Her life also inspired Mariposa de Barrio, a biographical telenovela about her life on Telemundo.

Rivera was at the peak of her fame in 2012 when she died in a plane crash alongside six others. The crash occurred shortly after the plane departed from Monterrey, Mexico.
