The Challenge season 40 might see one of the franchise's titans fall.

The first trailer for The Challenge: Battle of the Eras is finally here, and the footage shows none other than five-time champion (and recent The Traitors winner) CT Tamburello getting taken away on a stretcher due to a potentially game-ending injury. The trailer shows an ambulance being loaded, and he's heard saying, "It's my back! I'm trying to move 'em," while he sounds like he's in distress.

The rest of the footage promises an all-out war between the best veterans who have ever played this game. Split into four teams based on what season players debuted in the franchise, season 40 boasts one of the most epic casts in history, pulling from all past 39 seasons. And the competition begins immediately, as players must first compete at the "Era Invitational" and eliminate the weakest links from within their own team.

The trailer reveals several players returning to the franchise after a long time away. They're all ready to get revenge on old rivals, or get redemption for past performances, or just prove that they're the best of the best as they compete for their share of $1 million. There are explosive fights, new romances, bloody faces, Hall Brawl collisions, and of course, twists that change the game for everyone.
