John Tucker Must DieBrittany Snow and Penn Badgley say they've 'gotten no call' to do

John Tucker Must Die star Jesse Metcalfe has said that a sequel to the 2006 teen comedy is in the works. Costars Brittany Snow and Penn Badgley aren’t part of it, though — yet.

In an episode of Badgley’s podcast Podcrushed, both actors said that they are not yet involved with any potential follow-ups to the film.

“Penn, I don’t know if you’ve had a call, but I’ve gotten no call,” Snow said on the podcast. “Yeah, I’ve had no call, no,” Badgley agreed. “I mean, it’s maybe possible like the superposition quantum physics, like everything is potentially within the realm of, like, maybe this apple will fall up, I can’t actually say with certainty.”

John Tucker Must Die followed three high school students (played by Ashanti, Arielle Kebbel, and Sophia Bush) who discover that they’re all dating John Tucker (Metcalfe), despite him telling them all that they’re “the one.” The three girls scheme with Kate (Snow) to plot their revenge.

Kebbel, Metcalfe, and Bush reunited at a panel at Epic Cons Chicago in March, where Metcalfe revealed that “there is a script” for a sequel. "I’ve been hearing rumblings about this script circulating Hollywood — apparently it's amazing,” he said. "I'd definitely love to be a part of it, and I can't wait to read it."

"The rumor is true," Kebbel confirmed. "I started producing a few years ago. There is a script. We are very proud of it. It does involve all of the OG cast." Bush said that she was “ready to go” work on the project, too.

On the Podcrushed episode, Snow said that she’d communicated with Kebbel about the project a while ago, but hadn’t received any updates.

“I have been talking to Arielle about this for years because she was trying to get it off the ground, but I didn’t know what happened, and I was like, ‘Go forth. Go forth with that.’” she said. “But so that was the last I had heard of it, was that she was trying to make it happen, and I guess she did? I will read whatever — they’ve worked really hard.”

Badgley expressed an openness to the possibility of the sequel, but questioned how his character, John’s brother Scott, could factor into the story. “Never have I even thought of that as a potential thing, but I guess if there was a script, I would read it,” the actor said. “I’ve got the smallest role in the movie. I don’t know that I would belong in it anyway.”

“I’m not doing it if you’re not doing it,” Snow said.

Elsewhere in the episode, the former costars also reminisced about working together on an emotional scene in John Tucker Must Die. “We must have had some kind of understanding here, but I was trying to help you get there,” Badgley said. “And so I ad-libbed a little bit and said worse things than are in the script.”

Snow said she had no recollection of the incident. “I don’t remember this at all,” she said. “Maybe I blocked it out.”

“Just a little, I wouldn’t have done anything really out of pocket,” Badgley responded.
