Mama June Shannon hopes a new house will help with 'nightmare' loss of her daughter
Published on January 15, 2026 EDT Anna "Chickadee" Cardwell died at home, and it's a constant reminder that "this is where everything happened," Shannon says.

Reality TV star "Mama June" Shannon hopes that a new address might help ease the grief of losing a child.

Shannon’s daughter, Anna "Chickadee" Cardwell, died at home in December 2023 at the age of 29. Shannon told PEOPLE magazine that the house is a reminder of her loss.

“This is where everything happened,” Shannon, 44, said. “We are living in a constant nightmare, but for me, for the last six months, it's been a struggle.”

In January 2023, Cardwell was diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma in her liver, kidney, and lung. Shannon shared the news of Cardwell’s death on December 10, 2023, in an Instagram post that included a family photo.

“With the breaking heart, we are announcing that [Anna] is no longer with us,”  Shannon wrote. “She passed away in my home last night peacefully at 11:12 PM. She gave one hell of a fight for 10 months.”

Cardwell left behind two children: 11-year-old Kaitlyn and 8-year-old Kylee. Kaitlyn lives with Shannon and her husband, Justin Stroud, while Kylee lives with her father, according to PEOPLE.

Cardwell, along with her half-sister of Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson, rose to fame on TLC's Toddlers and Tiaras and the 2012 spin-off Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, which focused on Shannon and her family.

Cardwell and Shannon had an at times strained relationship, including a period in 2003 when Cardwell lived with her grandmother and Cardwell’s 2014 accusations of sexual abuse by Shannon’s then-romantic partner, convicted sex offender Mark McDaniel. But the two had reconciled and were together at Shannon’s February 2023 wedding to Stroud.

Now, Shannon told PEOPLE, it’s time to find a new place to call home.

“For me and Justin and Kaitlyn it's just a constant remembering,” the Mama June: Family Crisis star said.

“It is just really, am I going to wake up from this nightmare?” she asked.

In addition to Cardwell and Thompson, Shannon is the mother of Lauryn "Pumpkin" Efird and Jessica "Chubbs" Shannon.
