Nurys Mateo is ready to forgive and forget The Challenge season 40's controversial elimination that sent her boyfriend Horacio Gutierrez Jr. home.
After Horacio — and many other Battle of the Eras cast members — contested Derrick Kosinski's win due to confusing rules and editing in episode 4, producers had a Zoom video call with Derrick and Horacio to show them unedited footage of the rules being stated to the players as well as the entire elimination. During the call, Horacio saw that he "missed" an important part of the rules where he didn't have to pick up any pegs that fell off the wall, and that Derrick beat him by seconds. Nurys had been vocally supporting Horacio on social media in the days prior to the Zoom, alleging that production "lied" in order to keep Derrick in the game, but she now concedes the win to Derrick.
"I didn't want to answer this one but I will say, whoever won, won," Nurys told Entertainment Weekly on Thursday night at the DirecTV Gets Real party cohosted by EW and PEOPLE celebrating the return of fall reality TV. "If after they watched everything, they're saying Derrick won, then Derrick won. And I'm happy for him. I was always happy for him."

Nurys has become known for not holding back her opinions on social media, but she wants to move on from this particular issue.
"I hope now ... we can let bygones be bygones," she said. "There was a lot of drama going on so I hope everything is good now. Aside from that, I'm just hoping that Horacio can come back now, or will come back, because he doesn't really want to."
Before his Zoom call with producers, Horacio told EW that he actually won the elimination due to issues that weren't shown in the episode, including members of production placing Derrick's pegs in the wall for him, and Derrick continuing to compete while Horacio was forced to stop because his ball got stuck. "It's still a pill that I can't swallow, truly," he said at the time, adding that he wasn't sure what this meant for his future on the show.
While Horacio isn't committing to more seasons at the moment, Nurys is still passionate about returning to MTV's reality competition franchise — and reveals that she's still watching season 40 because she's "obsessed."

"I'm for sure still coming on The Challenge," she said. "I love The Challenge, everything about it. This is a dream for me. As long as they call, I will answer. I really would love to play with Horacio again so I really hope that he will come back at some point, but I think he's going to take a break for now."
Nurys was one of the first players out from season 40's Battle of the Eras after coming in last place in the first challenge due to her not knowing how to row a boat, and then losing a Hall Brawl elimination against Olivia Kaiser. She's determined to learn from her mistakes, however, as she trains for future seasons.
"Honestly, I feel like I should be swimming and I haven't been! But I have been rowing," she said. "I've rowed, I've been paddling, so I've been practicing on the boats, practicing on the water in that sense. But I haven't been swimming so that's the next step. Still doing puzzles on my phone all the time, still doing cardio, and also now, my next goal is also to gain weight because I need to go back in stronger."
The Challenge: Battle of the Eras airs Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
