The Challenge OGs call out season 40's younger 'sore losers': 'I'm tired of that s---'

The Challenge OGs Darrell Taylor and Tina Barta are fed up with some of the newer competitors complaining about season 40.

The Challenge: Battle of the Eras has delivered multiple controversial eliminations already this season due to questionable editing, rules, and equipment, and many cast members have been vocal about it on social media. But Era 1's latest casualties Darrell and Tina — both lost their eliminations in this week's episode, bringing Era 1 down to only two players remaining — hate to see how much the younger cast members have been complaining — especially after they continued to target the OGs.

"The other Eras made sure that it wouldn't [be Era 1 dominating this season]," Tina tells Entertainment Weekly. "They want to make their names known, too, so they're going to stomp on ours."

"It was rough," Darrell agrees.

Below, Darrell and Tina call out the "little whiney babies" and "sore losers" from the newer generation of Challenge competitors for how they've been acting this season. Plus, they break down why they lost this week's elimination against Era 4's Michele Fitzgerald and Kyland Young.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: If only Era 1 got just one week off...

TINA BARTA: We were hoping the same thing. They're grinding us down. It was a serious grind... If I didn't get the penalty, we would've won. And if I didn't forget that puzzle piece — I take accountability for my snafus. It is heartbreaking. I let my team down.

DARRELL TAYLOR: That's the first time she's admitted it, and now it makes me feel better. Thank you, Tina. [But] definitely, we had the lightest team. We were the fastest. It probably would've been Jordan and Nia going in against Kyland and Michele. That's what it should it have been. Because there's no way we would've put in Aviv and Nehemiah. Nah.

Darrell, I'm glad you brought that up. Earlier this season it seemed like you threw Aviv under the bus, asking to go against her and Derek in an elimination. What was up with that?

DARRELL: I was never trying to get her thrown in. I knew that she was never going in, for the simple fact that Averey is so close to Derek. My wife had been telling me that if you get a chance and they ask you, because you never talk in deliberations, just say it. I remember Tony telling me, "Just tell me if you want a certain person, I'll give it to you." I was like, "All right, I want to go against Aviv and Derek." I just said it, but I knew that they weren't going in, and if Tony was going to cause a stalemate, he would go in. I thought it was just all fool's gold.

Okay, that makes more sense, because I was shocked at how quickly you said Aviv's name.

DARRELL: Nah. I know, it's funny, we're having a conversation, "It's good to have you back, we'll have each other's backs," and as soon as I get my first chance, "Aviv, get your little ass down there. I want to go against you. You ain't been in in a long time. I don't think you could win an elimination because you ain't been on The Challenge in over 20 years." She's very green, like Fresh Meat green. But no, I was never coming for her. You could lose any time in there, against anybody. You never know what you're doing.

TINA: It really is a crap shoot.

Especially with the eliminations this season. They're really anyone's game.

TINA: Isn't that great? I do like how chance-y it is more now. I do like how up in the air and how it could change the drop of a [hat], you don't know what's going to be around the corner. I enjoy that.

DARRELL: Yeah, it's crazy. They started off with all the headbangers and then they went to all these other new eliminations.

MTV

Tina, your previous elimination has caused a lot of talk on social media from other cast members about how it looked like your nails weren't hammered in as hard as the other boards. Now that you've seen the footage, what are your thoughts on that?

DARRELL: [Groans] Ohhh my god.

TINA: Right?!

DARRELL: These excuses all the time. People tend to make the most excuses for the people that they were rooting for.

TINA: It's ridiculous.

DARRELL: It's such a double standard.

TINA: Yeah, thank you.

DARRELL: This is The Challenge. This is the way it works, we've all been down there. Sometimes there's luck on our side. Sometimes there's not. You can't cry. Tina had a — I've never seen a more dominating performance in my life, by the way, which was pretty f---ing crazy because when she raked those nails off, I don't know how it happened, but it worked and she won. And she still had to hammer them all back in. But I mean, just like the whole Derrick and Horacio [controversy] — come on, man.

TINA: I think when you're a poor loser, you have to be able to gracefully lose as well as gracefully win in these Challenges and if you can't lose, then you're not a good winner, either.

DARRELL: I've seen way worse stuff happen. That's all I'm saying, when it comes to eliminations.

TINA: Right! Honestly, I think a lot of these people are trying to cry foul just for attention. I mean, why else? Because it's ridiculous. And I can poke holes in every single one of these reasons why you think that it was set [up]. It's just ridiculous, and I think it's just being sore losers.

DARRELL: And you can't take that away from her. It's not her fault, that's all I'm trying to say. All she did was what TJ said.

TINA: It's rude for me, and Emily.

DARRELL: Yeah, I'm tired of that s---.

TINA: I am, too. These new Eras doing this, I find it super cringe. They just whine and they try to win through technicalities, which is super gross.

DARRELL: Even with All Stars 2, when there was phase one [in the final] which Jonna and MJ never even finished, they let them go on when they still had hours of work to do, and we go to the next thing and then they win it. I don't cry about it. Was it fair? To me, deep down inside, no, but you don't hear me talking about it. It's The Challenge. It's the way it f---ing works. I just get tired of people trying to discredit people's wins and s---.

TINA: It takes so much away from all the hard work that we put in the off season [and during] the season. I just don't like it, and they need to stop. And if they're just doing it because they want attention, because they want to whine about something, then you're not going to be able to work with that many people in the future. Little whiny babies.

MTV

How do you feel about Jordan and Nia throwing you into the elimination?

TINA: [Jordan] was trying to bulls--- me. He was giving me lip service that I didn't want. It was in poor taste. It was tacky. I still love them but they pissed me off.

DARRELL: I'm tired of scratching Jordan's back and never getting the scratch back. I've saved Jordan a few times and I've never been saved by Jordan. I'm still cool with him, but I'm starting to notice because he has all these friends, but for some reason he's never scratched my back. So I'm going to remember that.

What was it like competing in that elimination?

DARRELL: I was pretty confident. I knew I was going to win against Kyland. I knew it was math, but I know that I'm good at math. I wasn't intimidated by him, even though he [beat me] when I came in as a mercenary. But I wanted my revenge. This was my time to redeem myself. As we watched Tina and Michele go through it though it, I was like, "I can't really f--- up. I don't want to be going in this thing more than once." So once I got through and I saw that he wasn't out, and then I saw the number, I was like, "Let me go to the sand and make sure, let me at least write the number down so I don't forget it."

And next thing I know, he pops out, I'm wiping the sand and then he does it in his head. And just like that, I had a brain fart. I wanted to make sure I was doing it right, but sometimes you don't have that time to double check your work, and I didn't have no time to be double checking with Kyland. That motherf---er is smart. You don't want to mess around with him. You just got to go with your gut.

Now that he's beaten you twice, do you think that says more about his skills as a competitor, or is it just the eliminations you've gotten?

DARRELL: You might be onto something, but that's not his fault. I can't take nothing away from him. He's a hell of a competitor. He wants it. He's hungry. That's a dangerous dude to go against because he's trying to make his name.

TINA: He's a stealthy one. I'm going to pay attention to more of this Kyland.

MTV

Tina, what was it like going against Michele?

DARRELL: Well, they cheated. Devin gave Michele the answers. They didn't let everybody else help, but Michele was able to get help from Devin.

Wait, really?

DARRELL: [Laughs] I'm just messing with you. I'm about to do what they do. I'm going to discredit their win.

TINA: [Laughs] I found out that Michele had magnets in her poles and that's why they were just flying. No, I know exactly where I went wrong. I'm not very good with mental math because I do have ADD, so I need to be able to see the numbers. Because I wasn't able to do that, she was able to finish before me. She outmathed me.

If only it was more nails.

TINA: Yeah, seriously. Give me another nail board.
