This ballerina can do more than pirouette. Ana de Armas finally takes the spotlight in the John Wick franchise with the first trailer for the upcoming spinoff Ballerina — or, to use its full title, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina.

John Wick fans have met ballerinas before. In 2019's John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum, Keanu Reeves' eponymous assassin in the black suit visited the Ruska Roma, one of the 12 criminal organizations with a seat at the High Table. The head of this organization is the Director (Anjelica Huston), and De Armas' Eve Macarro is its latest graduate.

"How do I start doing what you do?" Macarro asks the man himself, Reeves' John Wick, in the new trailer.

"Looks like you already have," Wick replies.

Like Wick before her, Macarro seeks vengeance. But she's avenging more than just a dead dog. She's out for blood after a twisted childhood and the murder of her father.

In addition to Reeves, Ballerina boasts some other familiar faces from the John Wick franchise, like Ian McShane as Continental Hotel owner Winston, who first meets Macarro as a young girl in a train station, and the late Lance Reddick as concierge Charon, whom we see welcoming her to the Continental years later as an adult.

"Do you like to dance? I know a school where they teach dancers," Winston tells the young Macarro.

In subsequent training montages, we see what this "teaching" entails: Macarro punching a bag, shooting guns at a firing range, and learning how to fight with all the tools at her disposal. One lesson learned: When you're a petite woman fighting a muscular man, always go for the crotch!

But there are also new faces in the mix, like Norman Reedus as a mysterious man named Pine.

"You have no idea what you just walked into," Pine tells Macarro in the trailer.

Directed by Len Wiseman (The Bourne Identity), Ballerina was originally set to hit theaters this year but got pushed back to beef up the action. Chad Stahelski, director of all four John Wick movies, aided Wiseman with these reshoots, and the results are apparent here, such as in the shot of De Armas fighting a shoot-out in a club soaked in neon lights, or when she closes a heavy door on someone right before an explosion goes off within.

Ballerina is set to hit theaters on June 6, 2025. Watch the trailer above.
