Inside OutAmy Poehler pitches her idea for a third
Published on December 01, 2025 EDT Poehler suggests a vision where we get to meet a wealth of new emotions.

Inside Out 2 is just hitting theaters, but Amy Poehler already has a pitch for a third installment.

While debunking fan theories about the movie with her castmates, Poehler hit upon a suggestion for a new story that would allow numerous emotions to make their debut.

"There's a place separate from headquarters where these more complicated emotions hang out," Poehler imagines. "Like a lounge where they're kind of waiting to go on. It's almost like an emotional batting cage, and they're just getting ready."

Over the years, animators have had many ideas about which emotions to include in Riley's brain (and they've sadly struck out on how to work in Schadenfreude twice now). But with Poehler's idea, fans could see a wider range of human emotions, including some more obscure ones that might not be the first to come to mind.

PIXAR

But before a third movie is on the docket, Pixar has already produced an Inside Out television series for Disney+ that's set to debut next spring.

"We have finished," Pixar's chief creative officer, Pete Docter, recently told Entertainment Weekly. "It's coming out next spring. I'm not sure that there's been a specific release date, but in the first film, remember we go to Dream Production to see how Riley's dreams are made? It semi-explains why they're so weird. We've continued the exploration of the power of dreams and how they affect us in our waking life, as well. So it's pretty cool."

Maybe those dreams can include a vestibule for complex emotions? Then they could kill two birds with one stone.

In the meantime, catch up with the emotions you already know and love in the sequel: Joy (Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Tony Hale, taking over from Bill Hader), and Disgust (Liza Lapira, taking over from Mindy Kaling). We also meet some new feelings in the sequel: Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser), and the new boss in town, Anxiety (Maya Hawke).

See how they all get along inside Riley's head in Inside Out 2, in theaters now.
