The Brothers SunMichelle Yeoh reacts to Netflix canceling
Published on January 15, 2026 EDT "I am so very proud of 'My Brothers Sun' family and what we presented to the world."

Michelle Yeoh is "heartbroken" that Netflix canceled her gangster dramedy The Brothers Sun after one season.

The Academy Award winner reacted to the cancellation on Instagram, sharing images alongside the cast that include her onscreen sons Justin Chien and Sam Song Li. "Finding it so hard to understand why," Yeoh captioned the post. "However, I am so very proud of My Brothers Sun family and what we presented to the world. Heads held high."

Deadline was the first to report the news of the show's cancellation over the weekend.

Netflix

Set in Los Angeles' San Gabriel Valley, the eight-episode debut season starred Yeoh as Eileen, the matriarch of a family of Taipei gangsters who plots her rise as the head of a powerful triad following an assassination attempt against her estranged husband. Chien played Yeoh's eldest son Charles, a hardened gangster who struggles to carve out his own path apart from his father. Li played Yeoh's youngest son Bruce, who had been shielded by his mother from his family's ties to the criminal underworld in their life in Los Angeles.

The series from Byron Wu and Brad Falchuk also starred Highdee Kuan, Jenny Yang, Alice Hewkin, Madison Hu, and Jon Xue Zhang. Debuting to favorable fanfare, the dramedy spent five weeks on Netflix's Top 10 for an English-language series and currently holds a 91% Rotten Tomatoes audience score.

Chien also recently responded to the cancellation, writing on Instagram that it would "take some time to digest this news" but thanking those who tuned in and supported the show. "It fills me with so much joy knowing that the show resonated with so many people," Chien wrote. "Your love made all of our collective work, sacrifices, and heartache, worth it."
