The Bachelorette host Jesse Palmer reacts to 'intense' Devin drama
Published on January 15, 2026 EDT "It felt like it could go off at any moment," Palmer tells 'Entertainment Weekly.'

Each week during The Bachelorette, host Jesse Palmer will answer a few questions about Jenn's "journey" to find "love." Today, Jesse shares his thoughts via email about the dust-up over Devin's gelato moment with Jenn, the tension at the cocktail party, and more.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Jenn and her guys headed right from the Hummingbird Nest Ranch to Melbourne, Australia. Do you think it's easier to fall in love on international soil?

JESSE PALMER: Absolutely. Traveling to international and exotic destinations brings a certain air of fantasy and adventure. Melbourne is such a dynamic and cosmopolitan city, making it a prime location to fall in love.

During the first group date, Devin stole Jenn away to share some gelato — and that small gesture ended up creating a lot of drama among the guys. When it comes to the "Devin was taking initiative" vs. "Devin was being selfish" debate, which side are you on and why?

As host, I am staying neutral, but I can certainly see both sides. I think Devin is leaning into his opportunities with Jenn and is focusing on her. He’s isn’t concerned [with] what the other men think.

That said, even guys who were annoyed by Devin's actions thought Thomas N. took things too far by confronting him in front of Jenn at the cocktail party. Describe the tension in the room when you came inside to tell them the cocktail party was over.

That was as intense a night that I’ve been a part of since hosting this franchise. It felt like it could go off at any moment. When I walked into the room, you could cut the tension with a butter knife.

We also need your take on Aaron's decision to give Devin a book on "self-growth" — thoughtful or passive-aggressive?

So, that was a very ironic, full-circle moment! Bachelor fans will remember Bennett giving Aaron’s twin brother Noah a similar book during Tayshia’s season of The Bachelorette.

Finally, kangaroo testicles, snakes, spiders — are we watching The Bachelorette or Fear Factor?

When in Australia, you have to experience the beautiful and cuddly wildlife!

The Bachelorette airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
